Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
Sleep Better, Improve Your Mental Health and Recovery, and Enhance Your Body’s Ability To Heal.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a non-invasive, painless treatment used for a number of different conditions. This state-of-the-art technology applies principles that have been used since the 17th century. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or hyperbaric therapy, supplements oxygen intake at higher atmospheric pressure, enhancing the distribution of oxygen through blood capillaries, tissues, organs, and the brain. This treatment is non-invasive and decreases inflammation, accelerates wound healing, and optimizes both physical and mental performance.
What is Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy (HBOT)?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is the medical use of oxygen in a pressurized environment, at a level higher than 1 atmosphere absolute (ATA). Increased pressure allows oxygen to dissolve and saturate the blood plasma (independent of hemoglobin/red blood cells), which yields a broad variety of positive physiological, biochemical, and cellular effects. This non-invasive therapy is the most trusted way to increase oxygen levels in all organs of the body. The typical treatment lasts for 60–90 minutes, during which the patient lies down and breathes normally.
HBOT has been demonstrated in several clinical studies to enhance the body’s innate ability to repair and regenerate. It is used as an adjunct therapy to complement and enhance the healing process in both chronic and acute conditions.
How Can Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Help You Heal Faster?
HBOT is a treatment that uses pressurized oxygen to help improve the healing process for certain injuries, infections, and other health conditions. When you schedule your consultation, we will be able to determine if hyperbaric oxygen therapy is the right treatment for you and provide more information on the results and services offered. HBOT can help improve energy levels and overall quality of life during the recovery process.
If you’re looking for a way to improve the healing process for certain injuries or health conditions, HBOT may be the right treatment for you. At California Contour Clinic, we offer high-quality HBOT services to help our patients recover and feel their best.

How Does Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Work?
Here’s an easy way to understand how HBOT works: When you purchase a bottle of soda, the CO2 gas bubbles are under pressure, which decreases the size of the bubbles enough that they dissolve into the liquid. Therefore, you are unable to see them. When pressure is released, the volume of each bubble increases and they become visible. While an individual is under pressure, the oxygen molecules decrease in size and can dissolve into the blood plasma. This exponentially increases oxygen delivery throughout the body and makes it possible for oxygen to reach inflamed tissue and support optimal cellular and organ functionality.

Our Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Process
You will be guided through the HBOT procedure by one of our skilled California Contour Clinic medical staff members, who will also evaluate your health objectives and decide whether you’re a good candidate for the procedure.
California Contour Clinic will develop a treatment plan based on your needs. This will contain the number of sessions, the duration of each treatment, and the recommended pressure.
After a safety check, patients are escorted inside a chamber where they can enjoy the benefits of compressed oxygen while using their phone or tablet, listening to music, or taking a nap.
All patients will receive follow-up care from our medical team, which will then evaluate and record the efficacy of the specific treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. At the beginning of the session, as your sinuses adjust to the increase in pressure, you may experience a “popping” sensation similar to what you likely have experienced on an airplane. California Contour Clinic staff will coach you through a couple of different ear-popping techniques, and if the discomfort remains, we will lower the pressure until it’s comfortable.
Yes. A California Contour Clinic staff member will sit with you at the beginning of the session until the hyperbaric chamber has reached its maximum pressure. You will have an intercom between you with which you’ll be able to communicate.
Something comfortable. We recommend something loose-fitting and cozy. We do ask, though, that you refrain from wearing scented perfumes and lotions or heavy jewelry.
Rest and relax! You deserve it. You could nap, listen to music, meditate, or watch TV.
A hyperbaric oxygen therapy session typically lasts 60 minutes to 2 hours.
In essence, hyperbaric oxygen therapies significantly boost the blood’s oxygen content by combining an increased ambient pressure with a high oxygen concentration. This increased oxygen concentration enables the oxygenation of tissues that aren’t getting enough oxygen at rest, promotes the growth of new blood vessels into these under-oxygenated tissues, and aids in the body’s ability to get rid of some bacteria.
Patients usually don’t encounter any side effects from HBOT. However, some individuals state that their ears pop between sessions.
Some patients also have mild fatigue after the initial treatments, but they should be able to carry on with their regular daily activities. Each patient will receive a thorough discussion of the risks and benefits before starting therapy.
It depends. For general health and maintenance, as little as 5 sessions can provide benefits. For more serious conditions, we recommend coming 3–5 times per week. Since oxygen therapy works cumulatively, the more frequently you can get it, the better. For more severe injuries and conditions, we recommend coming a minimum of 5 days in a row.
